The Western Iowa Assistant Land Steward performs and participates in preserve operations, maintenance and management, under the direction of the Western Iowa Land Steward. Tasks include maintenance of preserve infrastructure, tools, and power equipment, invasive species control, preserve and easement monitoring, prescribed fire, and assisting with the bison herd at Broken Kettle Grasslands Preserve in Westfield, Iowa.

The Longleaf Alliance (TLA) is seeking a skilled and motivated forester to advance longleaf pine habitat conservation and outreach strategies in the northern range of the longleaf pine ecosystem. The Longleaf Alliance is a non-profit organization that works throughout the Southeastern U.S. to guide longleaf restoration, stewardship, and conservation using science-based outreach, partnership engagement, and on-the-ground assistance.

Fire, Fuels, and Forestry Program Assistant

The Fire, Fuels and Forestry Program Assistant helps coordinate a dynamic program, with duties changing by the season and opportunities to work in the field. The Assistant will help manage forestry contracts and contractors, develop environmental compliance documents, utilize GIS to create project maps, and participate in regional collaborative efforts. This position is a good fit for someone adept at working in both the office and field, who can apply local knowledge of forest and fire ecology to funding proposals, grant reports, and collaborative regional efforts.

Tribal Forest Stewardship and Restoration Program Research Coordinator

The ERI Tribal Forest Stewardship and Restoration Program Research Coordinator will implement interdisciplinary and applied science research, outreach, and coordination with partners for the ERI Human Dimensions and Partnerships unit, although they will also work across all ERI units as needed. This senior research coordinator will be responsible for working closely with the Human Dimensions Program Manager (direct supervisor) and the Director of the Tribal Forest Stewardship and Restoration Program to maintain and develop relationships with Tribes and multiple, diverse partners in the SWERI footprint, primarily focusing on Arizona.

The ERI seeks a Research Associate for the newly formed Wildfire Insurance and Resilient Economies (WIRE) Partnership, which will involve close collaboration with the NAU School of Forestry, other ERI units, and ERI and SWERI partners and collaborators. The WIRE Partnership tackles the growing insurance crisis in the Western U.S., driven by the increasing severity of wildfires. It focuses on understanding and innovating insurance models to support communities and businesses, alongside reframing wildfire economics to emphasize prevention and restoration over reactive suppression and commodity extraction.

Manager, Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience Program

The Ecological Restoration Institute (ERI) Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience Program Manager leads the day-to-day management, coordination, and delivery of ERI’s Restoration Ecology & Forest Resilience portfolio in support of ERI and SWERI goals. The position applies subject-matter expertise in restoration ecology, forest and fire ecology, and wildfire risk reduction to advance proactive, landscape-scale restoration, fuels management, and conservation in frequent-fire forests and woodlands of the Intermountain West.
