The Mid Klamath Watershed Council (MKWC) invites applicants for a seasonal (12-week) internship position for individuals ages 18-26. Early Career Interns will gain work experience in a broad range of natural resource restoration and monitoring projects and career readiness skills. During the program, interns will spend one month working in three of MKWC’s main programs: Plants, Fisheries, and Fire & Forestry. Interns will integrate directly into existing crews, job shadow MKWC staff, and participate in technical and career-readiness training opportunities. Interns will learn both field and office-based skills, as well as receive trainings to prepare them for future employment or education. Interns will be enrolled at College of the Redwoods and receive course credit for completion of the internship.

The ideal candidate is reliable and responsible, and has a desire to gain real work experience and a more informed idea of regional career options in watershed restoration. Early Career Interns will work Monday-Thursday (4 days per week), 8 hours per day, 32 hours/week, with some opportunity for additional hours or overtime. Interns will be paid biweekly at a rate of $19.35/hour. Interns can be based out of either Orleans or Happy Camp areas. This is a non-supervisory position.

Early Career Interns Will:

  • Assist MKWC Fisheries Program with fisheries restoration and monitoring activities which may include snorkel surveys, fish habitat restoration and monitoring projects.

  • Assist Plants Program with removal and monitoring of prioritized invasive weeds and native plant maintenance at restoration project sites.

  • Assist Fire & Forestry Program with manual fuels reduction projects, forest health monitoring, and prescribed burn operations.

  • Work with a variety of staff in both field and office settings to learn skills related to careers in natural resources.

  • Complete a variety of career-readiness trainings and receive mentorship and support from MKWC staff.

  • Enroll at College of the Redwoods to receive course credit for the internship and explore pathways into higher education.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Expectations:

  • Interns must reliably report to work on time at the MKWC office in Happy Camp or Orleans

  • Interns must have the ability to complete physically intensive work outdoors, a desire to explore next steps in their careers, and good references.

  • Interns must follow MKWC Safety Policies and Procedures as well as the MKWC Code of Conduct.
