Salary: $23/hr (increase to $25/hr after 6-month training period)

About:

The Butte County Fire Safe Council (BCFSC) is a grassroots 501c(3)nonprofit dedicated to building wildfire-resilient communities across Butte County. Since 1998, we’ve partnered with residents, agencies, and local organizations to reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health, and strengthen wildfire resilience through education, collaboration, and action.

Our mission is to provide safety in Butte County through wildfire hazard education, mitigation, and wildfire recovery. From the foothills to the forests, our work spans defensible space projects, shaded fuel breaks, prescribed fire, post-fire restoration, youth education, and community engagement.

As we grow to meet the evolving needs of our region, we’re looking for a dedicated team member who shares our commitment to stewardship, innovation, and community-driven solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing fuels reduction, timber removal and other fire safety projects, provides education and coordination in the field.

  • Landowner outreach – phone/mail/email as needed.

  • Tracking acreage in GIS Field Maps software/app

  • Flag property boundaries

  • Oversee Contractor work

  • Document safety

  • Attend public meetings & partner events

  • Encourage community members to participate in volunteer efforts such as Firewise USA

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.

  • Work independently and problem solve with minimal supervision.

  • Expertise with strategic thinking as well as the ability to plan and execute tactical strategies to implement company objectives.

  • Strong internal and external communication techniques.

  • Interact with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Follow and effectively communicate verbal and written instructions.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers.

  • Work in a participative team setting and have strong facilitation skills.

  • Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.

  • Maintain a professional appearance, as compared to executive level employees in both the public and private sector.

  • Valid California Driver’s license

  • Windows PC skills

  • Scheduling and meeting planning

Education/Work Experience Desired:

  • High school diploma

  • Experience with Fuels Reduction and Wildfire Safety, Safety Policy, Implementation, Community Building and Outreach (related experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis).
