DESCRIPTION: Cal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Forestry, Fire, and Rangeland Management invites applications for an academic year, full-time, 1.0 time base, temporary faculty position in Fire and Forest Science for academic year 2025/2026. Initial appointment will be for the Fall 2025 semester. Subsequent reappointment for Spring 2026 is expected, but will be contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluation, budget, and programmatic need. Depending on satisfactory performance evaluation, available funding, and programmatic need we anticipate renewing this position in future terms. For appointment in future terms, the faculty member must submit an application to the Temporary Faculty Pool and/or apply to other faculty vacancies at Cal Poly Humboldt, as they are available. The successful candidate will teach a subset of the following courses: Fire Behavior and Effects, Applied Fire Use and Policy, Humans and Fire, Fuels Management, Forest Ecology, Restoration Ecology, Dendrology.
DEPARTMENT: The Department of Forestry, Fire, and Rangeland Management offers three baccalaureate degree programs: Applied Fire Science and Management, Forestry, and Rangeland Resource Science. We currently have about 400 undergraduate majors in Forestry and Rangeland Resource Science. We have nine tenure-line forestry faculty members, two tenure-line rangeland resources faculty members, and ten lecturers. Physical resources include an indoor fire laboratory; an extensive field equipment stockroom; and access to a diverse set of surrounding sites for field-based teaching and research. PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence. The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members in temporary positions are teaching, maintaining office hours, and working collaboratively and productively with colleagues. Instructional assignments may include: Fire Behavior and Effects, Applied Fire Use and Policy, Humans and Fire, Fuels Management, Forest Ecology, Restoration Ecology, Dendrology. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.

RANK, SALARY, AND BENEFITS: This position will be filled in the Lecturer classification; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:
Lecturer A $5,507 - $6,677
Lecturer B $6,221 - $13,224
Lecturer C $6,825 - $14,523
Lecturer D $8,593 - $15,211
Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An earned B.S. or equivalent in Fire, Forestry, or related field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment. Candidates with experience developing curriculum/courses/programs that inclusively serve a diverse student population and facilitate community growth are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
Five (5) years or more of professional experience in fire or forest management;
Record of training or experience in the field of Fire and Forest Science or Management;
Excellence in, or clear potential for, field-based university-level instruction and creating a student-centered learning environment;
Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse student and/or research populations; and
Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Fire, Forestry, or related field from an accredited college or university;
Documented experience teaching Fire, Forestry, or related fields; and
Demonstrated teaching excellence shown through course evaluations.
