Distinguished Leader Award
This award recognizes individuals who are mid-career and have become an exceptional leader in the fire ecology and management research, education, or management. Nominees can work in any area related to fire ecology and management. While there is no age requirement for receiving this award, nominees should have received their degree or training at least 10 years previously and be at least 10 years from their expected retirement. Those closer to retirement should be nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award. International nominees are accepted.
Nominators can select one of the following categories for this award based on the nominee's accomplishments:
Distinguished Leader in Education
Distinguished Leader in Management
Distinguished Leader in Research
The AFE Awards Committee will recommend one award winner annually for final approval by the AFE Board of Directors and has the discretion to recommend more than one award in any given year.
Note: The Awards Committee is currently working on revisions to the AFE Awards Program, and we will not be accepting nominations or giving awards in 2024.
