University of Montana 2026 Fire Student Professional Mixer

By Jacob Tepsa, Fire Management Specialist at the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis and advisor for SAFE at the University of Montana

What a fantastic evening at the Annual Fire Student Professional Mixer, thank you to everyone who could join us! Hosted by the National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis (FireCenter) and the UM Student Association for Fire Ecology and Management (Fire Club), the event brought together practitioners, scientists, fire managers and students. Students and wildland fire professionals gathered at the UM Forestry Building for an energizing night of conversation, connection, and community. This event is intended for folks to meet and build new mentorships, friendships, and professional connections.

We invited professionals across the Missoula-area, and we had a wide range of representation from state employees, federal employees, private sector employees, non-profit organizations, and retirees. The evening began with introductions and two rounds of structured connecting and networking. The rest of the night was an open mingle, and many folks stayed through the evening, enjoying conversations, food, and drinks. Many students were able to find job opportunities.

The event has been held annually since last year, and it will be held again next year!

Whether reconnecting with colleagues or meeting someone new, it was clear that our wildland fire community is strong, supportive, and growing. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the night such a success. We’re excited to see the collaborations and connections that continue to build from here!
