Job Description
The Ember Alliance (TEA)’s Fire Management Department is hiring a Wildland Fire Science Coordinator position to support wildland fire science coproduction between research groups and Department of Defense (DoD) wildland fire technology development sites (Innovation Nodes) (https://serdp-estcp.mil/page/4f3816cb-f84e-4935-b8fd-896381e98f1b). The Wildland Fire Science Coordinator position focuses on developing and translating management-relevant prescribed fire science through facilitation of research burn campaigns, networking, workshops, publications, training, and planning/logistical support. This position will include assisting with scoping, planning, and creating dynamic training aids to bring QUIC-Fire (see attached video) fire behavior modeling visualizations to fire practitioners, and supporting the Integrated Research Management Team (IRMT) to facilitate large prescribed fire research campaigns.
Candidates should have a passion for the coproduction of wildland fire science between prescribed fire practitioners and researchers, the development and use of practical decision support technology, increasing the pace and scale of good fire on public and private lands, increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community, and building skills and confidence for fire practitioners from all backgrounds and experience levels in an inclusive and supportive environment.

What You’ll Do:
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join TEA's Fire Management Team. The position is funded for 12 months and may extend depending on the availability of additional funding. It may have both field and office responsibilities including but not limited to:
Support science and technology that meet the needs of the DoD, particularly “prescribed fire science” as part of the DoD Wildland Fire Science Initiative (WFSI).
Work closely with the DoD to support the coproduction of wildland fire science at Innovation Nodes within the eastern U.S., with emphasis on Eastern Innovation Landscape Network (EILN) partners (https://research.fs.usda.gov/srs/projects/eiln#overview).
Coordinate, support, and track DoD installation involvement, implementation status, needs assessments, and monitoring/research projects related to the EILN.
Provide project management support and supervision for the IRMT including, but not limited to: assisting with invoicing, time and expense approvals, lead evaluations for team and project performance, ensuring project deliverables are met on time and within budget, and assisting with hiring.
Work closely with the Fire Science Exchanges to catalyze collaborations between fire scientists, fire managers, and land managers by encouraging the use of fire science to benefit the public and support implementation of objective-focused wildland fire management.
Work closely with wildland fire training organizations like the National Interagency Prescribed Fire Training Center (NIPFTC) and National Advanced Fire and Resource Institute (NAFRI) to develop prescribed fire training aids using visualizations from coupled fire/atmosphere fire behavior models.
Support the implementation of in-person workshops (2-3 per year) and online development engagements to bring QUIC-Fire technology to fire practitioners.
This position may support collaborative research burns as a member of the IRMT (typically 1-2 per year) or other prescribed fire activities.

Breakdown of duties: 35-45% training materials development and coordination, 35-45% project management, 10-15% travel including field operations and assisting with workshops.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Passion for TEA’s mission.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Legally eligible to work in the U.S. and participate in a background check and DMV check.
Valid state-issued driver’s license.
Desire to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.
3+ years in wildland fire management and/or wildland fire science research.
Project management and leadership experience.
Effective knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Video Conferencing).
Active participation in creation of a kind, safe and healthy work environment which encourages the diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice of all people.
Commitment to collaboration and partnership building/ management with nonprofits, community groups and/or state/ government agencies.
What Makes a Great Candidate:
Proven experience successfully managing complex and/or multiple projects.
Experience developing informational videos and/or pre-recorded PowerPoint presentations.
Experience writing technical reports and other documents.
Effective knowledge of Slack, Asana, and SharePoint.
A strong work ethic, including a commitment to principles of Duty, Integrity and Respect.
Background knowledge of fire management including the use of prescribed fire to meet diverse management objectives.
A growth-oriented mindset and ability to give/receive constructive feedback.

NWCG qualified as FFT1 or SRB.
Current red card and moderate or arduous pack test.
What Will Make You Stand Out:
Proven experience managing teams in remote locations.
A proven track record of interagency and cooperator collaboration, including DoD partners.
Experience working as part of an Incident Management Team.
Experience with prescribed fire planning, implementation, training, and leadership.
Demonstrated experience with terrestrial and airborne LIDAR technologies for natural resource and fire management monitoring, including data collection, processing, and analysis to assess vegetation structure, fuels loads, and topographical features.
Demonstrated ability to work under deadlines and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to connect with diverse audiences in a training or educational setting.
NWCG qualified as FIRB or RXB2.
