Spatial Informatics Group - Natural Assets Laboratory (SIG-NAL) is a 501(c)(3) organization
founded as a non-profit with a mission to develop and apply the scientific foundation needed to
link economic and environmental interests, by accounting for the full value of natural assets.
SIG-NAL works to integrate the science of natural assets with tools, policies and
decision-making for public benefit. SIG-NAL’s expertise ranges from landscape ecology, wildlife
ecology, forestry, ecosystem services valuation, natural climate solutions, climate adaptation,
carbon markets, to natural resource economics. We work collaboratively in a virtual laboratory to
advance scientific frontiers of resilience and regenerative ecosystems.
Job Description: SIG-NAL seeks a Wildfire and Landscape Resilience Project Manager to
coordinate and support the implementation of a new Regional Wildfire Mitigation Program
(RWMP) in the south coast region of Santa Barbara County, California. The successful
candidate will have expertise in wildfire recovery and preparedness planning, as well as a
background in ecology, to develop a coordinated ecological restoration and fire-safe “greening”
project for wildfire resilience across the region. The applicant selected will work closely with
numerous organizations and wildfire experts, providing advisory services to land managers,
scientists, community groups and non-profits, state and local agencies for this progressive and
collaborative program.
The position offered is located in Santa Barbara County, California. Exceptional candidates with
experience in Southern California ecosystems will be considered. The candidate ideally will be
based in close enough proximity to Santa Barbara to facilitate day trips for in-person meetings
when the COVID-19 pandemic conditions allow.
