Forest and Fire Ecology Postdoctoral Researcher

The Institute for Ecological Monitoring and Management at San Diego State University is seeking a highly qualified and experienced postdoctoral scholar to join our research team and lead research in forest and fire ecology.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our research team and lead efforts aimed at understanding forest and fire dynamics in southern California to inform strategic planning and management under climate change. Applicants should have strong interest and background in applied ecology, conservation, and spatial analyses. Experience working with forest and fire managers to support science-informed decision making is preferred. Quantitative proficiency in spatial analyses, particularly working with remote sensing data, is needed.

The Institute for Ecological Monitoring and Management (IEMM) at San Diego State University (SDSU) uses cutting-edge scientific research methods and meaningful community and stakeholder engagement and collaboration to advance climate adaptation, sustainability, and conservation for California’s communities and natural landscapes. IEMM performs its mission of science in service by linking SDSU scientists with California communities, resource managers, and planners.

Qualifications: A PhD in ecology, forestry, applied conservation science, or related fields is required. Candidates must demonstrate scholarship, leadership and have at least 5 years of experience conducting ecological research. Experience in interdisciplinary and innovative, integrated research approaches is a plus. Candidates should be able to work both independently and in a collaborative setting with project team members, stakeholders, and partners at a variety of natural resource management organizations, and community organizations. We are excited to welcome candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing capacity, and a growing publication record. The researcher will be based at SDSU and will work under the direction of Dr. Megan Jennings. The position may require travel within California.

Appointment: Appointment will be for two years from start date, contingent upon performance. Starting salary is approximately $66,560 a year plus benefits (DOE).
