Description:
This is a moderately independent environmental technician position performing heavy equipment operation duties, including transport and usage of mowing or earth-moving equipment on ERM-managed accessways, fire lines, hiking trails, equestrian trails, designated restoration/construction areas, and site inspection of same. This position is responsible for conducting site inspections of vegetative maintenance of natural areas, clearing or treatment of natural areas; assessing conditions /damage of natural areas for prescribed fire; prepares and maintains equipment for prescribed fire activities on natural areas. Assists with prescribed burns, data entry, maintaining equipment, contractor oversight, and performs quick response maintenance activities as needed. Work is performed under the direction of professional staff and is reviewed through conferences, work produced, and results obtained.
40 Variable hours/week, Monday - Friday; these hours may vary due to site monitoring activities or prescribed burn participation.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Valid FL Class A CDL at time of application and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of 60-semester/90-quarter credit hours of college-level courses with an emphasis in Physical or Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, or Engineering. Equivalency: Graduation from high school/equivalent and two (2) years of technical experience working directly in the environmental field.
Necessary Special Requirement:
May be required to obtain a Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tractor trailer lowboy combination.
Preference for:
Experience with natural area management, including heavy equipment operation in natural areas; Prescribed Burn Certification.
