National SAFE Officer Positions
The National SAFE officer team is accepting nominations for next year’s SAFE leadership. There are four positions available: President, Vice President, Training/Education Officer, and Secretary/Treasurer. Terms for these positions will begin March 1 and last one year. Serving as a national SAFE officer is an exciting opportunity to gain leadership skills, meet new students and professionals in the fire community, and help steer the direction of SAFE in the year.

2023 Fire Congress
The 10th International Fire Ecology and Management Congress will be December 4-8 in Monterey, CA. The Call for Proposals will open March 1, and registration opens in July with opportunities for student and volunteer rates. If you are interested in helping plan student or mentoring activities, contact office@fireecology.net for more information.
AFE Intern
Gain valuable skills and experience and meet leaders in the fire ecology field as an AFE Intern! This opportunity is available with AFE for the spring or summer semester. The intern will assist with science communication, organizational tasks, and conference activities. We will work with you and your advisor to meet requirements for course credit or project work. Harrison Scholarship
Applications are being accepted for the 2023 Wayne Harrison Scholarship. These awards of up to $2,500 can be used to fund student research, management, or education projects related to wildland fire science. Applications are due March 31.
New Online Discussions and AFE Mentoring
Starting in February, the AFE Mentoring Futures Program and SAFE will begin hosting a series of online gatherings to connect wildland fire students, share information, and learn about career opportunities. More information will be shared about this soon.
Lastly, if you are interested in joining the Mentoring Futures Program, please apply! Applications submitted by March 31 will be reviewed and matched with a mentor to begin work together this summer.
