Braiding Indigenous Knowledge and Western Science for resilient forests
The Braiding Indigenous and Western Knowledge for Climate-Adapted Forests: An Ecocultural State of Science Report outlines a new approach to forest stewardship–one that “braids together” Indigenous knowledge and Western science to conserve and restore more resilient forestlands.
Published March 25, the report provides foundational material to inform future work on climate-smart adaptive management practices for U.S. Forest Service land managers. The report, by a team of more than 40 experts, was co-led by Dr. Susan Prichard, a fire ecologist with the UW School of Environmental and Forest Sciences, and Dr. Cristina Eisenberg, an associate dean of forestry at Oregon State University.
