2021 Outstanding Associate Editor for Fire Ecology Journal
Congratulations to Jeffrey Kane, Humboldt State University, for winning the Outstanding Associate Editor Award for 2021!
Jeff Kane is an Associate Professor of Fire Ecology and Fuels Management and Director of the Wildland Fire Lab and Fire Resilience Institute at Humboldt State University. He teaches and has authored over 50 journal articles that broadly focus on providing information to better manage and restore fire-prone ecosystems in an era of rapid change. Recent research has focused on litter flammability, post-fire tree mortality, and vegetation responses to fuel treatments. He is also chair of the Northern California Prescribed Fire Council, and a member of the Association for Fire Ecology Education Committee.
Editor’s Note: Fire Ecology often gets papers whose topics are in scientific areas that are outside the expertise of the Editorial Board. Few Associate Editors are willing to handle these papers because they don’t feel they have the experience to evaluate the paper. However, these papers still need to be reviewed and I always go to the one Associate Editor that has never turned down an assignment. Jeff Kane dutifully accepts manuscript submissions, finds appropriate reviewers, and provides high quality, professional decisions. Jeff joined the Editorial Board in 2009 and has handled over 15 papers during his tenure. Thank you, Jeff, for all your hard work.
