2020 Outstanding Associate Editor for Fire Ecology Journal
Congratulations to Guillermo E. Defossé, María Marcela Godoy, and María del Carmen Dentoni for winning the Outstanding Associate Editor Award for 2020!
Fire Ecology is one of the very few journals that provides abstracts in both English and Spanish. We do this because of the tremendous amount of fire ecology work done in Spanish-speaking countries. However, the journal has a difficult time finding funding to perform these translations. Over the last four years, Guillermo E. Defossé (center of picture), María Marcela Godoy (left) and María del Carmen Dentoni (right) have translated Fire Ecology abstracts free of charge. They not only translated the original abstract but also reviewed the translation for accuracy. AFE thanks them for their outstanding work by awarding this team the Associate Editors of the Year.
Guillermo E. Defossé is a Research Scientist working as a principal researcher in the Esquel Research Center for Mountains and Steppes of Patagonia (CIEMEP-CONICET); he is also forest ecology professor at the University of Patagonia in Esquel, Patagonia, Argentina. In 2015 he was elected Director of the Doctoral Program in “Ecology and Management of Vegetation Fires” taught at the University of Patagonia.
María Marcela Godoy is a forest engineer at U of La Plata in Argentina, and also holds a MSc in Forest Genetics at Georgia Augusta University of Göttingen, Germany (1994). She started working on fire Ecology at the Patagonian Andes Forest Research and Extension Center (CIEFAP) in Esquel in 2000. She is also assistant professor of Forest Ecology since 1999 and advanced PhD candidate in the Doctoral program of “Ecology and Management of Vegetation Fires” taught at the University of Patagonia.
María del Carmen Dentoni is meteorologist of the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, specialized in Fire Weather and FDRS in the UI, the NOAA Fire Weather Program, and the BC Wildfire Program. She worked for the Servicio Nacional de Manejo del Fuego (SNMF, National Fire Management Service) of Argentina (1998-2019), leading the Fire Weather and FDR Programs. She is Professor of Climatology at the University of Patagonia and studied Spanish to English translation at the Argentine Association of English Culture.
