The Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) Wildfire Division is actively seeking a Fire Academy Coordinator to work at a statewide scope and scale in the Wildfire Academy Program. This position is part of a team of five: this Academy Coordinator works as part of a the team to deliver professional and effective training for basic, intermediate, and advanced training to firefighters for the Department, and other interagency partners. This position works directly for the Fire Training Academy Program Manager, and is part of the Plans and Information Section within the Wildfire Division of DNR. The position interacts with Region Fire staff, Division staff, WA Fire Service, WA National Guard, and other personnel that attend the Interagency Wildfire Academies. In addition to delivering quality training, this position also coordinates logistical needs for the Academy program and each of the academy sessions, both in person and virtual. The duties of the position are in direct support of the agency's wildland fire protection system, where the Academy Program supports workforce development for the agency. The successful candidate will be asked to use creativity and innovation when delivering training, managing program supply, is diligent and detailed-oriented, plans for the future, collaborates with others, and uses critical thinking when making decisions. The person in this position may work independently as well as part of a team.
Required Qualifications:
NWCG qualified at Single resource boss level, or equivalent National Incident Management System (NIMS) qualification.
Experience coordinating wildland fire training.
Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a Wildfire or Emergency Management program.
Working knowledge of wildland fire operations, ICS, NWCG fire training doctrine/training guides, and required training.
Proficient computer skills using MS Office Suite applications (Word, Power Point, Excel).
Demonstrated writing and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, be detail oriented, take initiative, and function in a highly productive unit with little supervision in a team setting.
Possesses highly functional organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing work tasks and demands.
