About Tall Timbers

Tall Timbers is recognized as the home of the study of fire ecology and is an advocate to protect the right to use prescribed fire for land management. It is also recognized as one of the nation’s leading land trusts. Since 1958, Tall Timbers has been using prescribed fire science to solve land management problems. Their unique perspective is rooted in this long-term practice of working cooperatively with partners to conduct research and apply results on the land.

About this Project

Building upon the current prescribed fire training that Tall Timbers provides, we will expand this training to the Coastal Plain region, this position will construct hybrid fire training opportunities (both online and in-person) that can be delivered to a diverse group of practitioners and partners.

Prescribed Fire Course Developer Position Summary

This is a full-time salaried, term position with Tall Timbers with primary day to day activities overseen by the Wildland Fire Training Specialist.  This position will help create courses for online and in person training purposes.   The Course Developer will partner with subject matter experts for curricula development in prescribed fire management.

Specific activities may include, but would not be limited to:

  • Assist with a training needs assessment of principals and partners in the prescribed fire community.

  • Manages multiple course development projects from inception to completion, in accordance to manager expectations and in accordance with established instructional design and curriculum development processes.

  • Design and manage online training material for prescribed burning using instructional design principles, models and methodologies.

  • Confirms instructional materials are aligned with either National Wildfire Coordinating Group or state Certified Prescribed Burn Manager templates, goals, and practices.

  • Designs and supervises production of learning resources in variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video and animation technologies. to support curriculum development and learning-centered course design within an established Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  • Conducts regular communication with stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and manage expectations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree a plus.

  • Experience in instructional design methodologies and course and curriculum design in all modalities (face-to-face, hybrid and online), including learning outcome development and curriculum alignment.

 Preferred:

  • Experience in course development (in person, online, and/or hybrid).

  • Experience and knowledge creating content within Learning Management Systems such as Moodle or Canvas.

  • Knowledge of prescribed fire concepts and principles.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of course and curriculum design processes, including learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum alignment, and learning-centered teaching strategies.  specifically related to natural resources.

  • Knowledge of learning management systems (Moodle, Canvas, etc.), interactive and multimedia applications, authoring tools and standard software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database programs in support of teaching and learning, in all instructional modalities. 

  • Strong knowledge of adult-learning teaching practices in online and hybrid courses. 

  • Knowledge of current and emerging learning technologies. 

  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques for storage and inventorying instructional media.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team and partners while demonstrating high quality course content.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Up to 5 days of leave is available in your first year, following a 90-day probationary period. Employees accrue up to 10 days of annual leave for calendar year two, then 15 days in calendar years three and four, followed by 20 days at years five.
