WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Prescribed Fire Manager is a three-year term position within the Idaho Chapter’s Forests and Fire Program. This program is aimed at improving the ecological and climate resiliency of Idaho forests and adjacent communities by using policy, strategic partnerships, and advocacy to catalyze science-based forest restoration activities at scale, including the expanded use of controlled fire and managed wildfire. We seek to influence forest management policy, leverage public and private funding, develop strategic partnerships, and help communities co-exist safely with fire.
To advance this mission, the Forest and Fire Program works with colleagues throughout TNC as well as a coalition of external partners, including the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Idaho Department of Lands, Local Government, University of Idaho, Idaho Prescribed Fire Council, Tribal Nations, the Idaho Forest Restoration Partnership, and other NGO’s.
This position will work to increase public support, funding, workforce capacity and implementation of prescribed fire and forest restoration projects to improve wildfire resilience. Duties include strengthening existing partnerships with local, state, federal, tribal, and non-governmental partners, developing new partnerships, supporting prescribed fire training for TNC staff and partners, supporting local, regional, and national deployment of TNC prescribed fire personnel, and leading our Women in Fire program.

This position oversees internal reviews, and designs and implements fire safety standards specific to the programs under their jurisdiction to meet or exceed organizational standards. They may suspend fire management program operations if there is clear evidence of safety violations, risk of potential safety violations, or non-compliance with Conservancy SOPs, requirements, or guidelines.
As part of the incumbent’s ongoing professional development, they will stay informed about new developments in land and fire management, pursue additional training or credentials, and participate in new initiatives as practicable. They will build strong partnerships with public and private cooperators to further the goals of the Conservancy, including fire management training with local, regional, national, and tribal partners.
