This role will be based at the Lake Alexander Preserve, located about 6 miles from Cushing, MN. Due to the need to be onsite (or in close proximity,) TNC crew/shared housing is provided as part of the position.

WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Prairie-Forest Border Ecoregion Stewardship Fellowship Program provides recent college graduates or early conservation career professionals opportunities to develop diverse competencies to be effective land stewardship and ecological restoration practitioners. Through experiential learning and intentional mentorship from conservancy staff, our Fellowship Program equips new conservation professionals with the capability to effectively assess prospective project sites, plan restoration and stewardship activities, lead crews in project implementation, and measure conservation outcomes.
As a Fellow, you will participate in/be responsible for prescribed fire implementation in partnership with other agencies, planning and implementing restoration and stewardship projects (i.e. invasive species control and woody plant management,) native prairie seed harvest/processing/planting, collecting and managing monitoring data, and providing leadership, training, and project management to a crew of seasonal staff and/or volunteers.
Other responsibilities include:
Manage day-to-day travel and equipment logistics for self and crew.
Tool and equipment maintenance.
Assist with not only stewarding TNC preserves, but other protected conservation lands public lands including state-owned Wildlife Management Areas (WMA's) and federally-owned Waterfowl Production Areas (WPA's).
Monitor and record data entries for various activity logs, photo points, and biological population monitoring.
Manage and contribute data to various GIS geodatabases for stewardship activity tracking and ecological condition assessments.
Manage and work within a budget and assist in developing budgets to complete projects.
Network with diverse groups including landowners, conservation partners, government officials, and the general public to recruit support for the Conservancy.
This position requires irregular hours, long days, and some travel on short notice. Work hours vary from 35-50+ hours per week with possible evening, weekend, or holiday work required depending on the season, project need, and training opportunities. You will also be expected to perform heavy physical work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1-year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with natural systems.
Experience in ecological land management principles.
Experience operating and or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.
