The Land Conservation Manager is part of the Stewardship and Field Program (SAF) department of The Nature Conservancy’s Florida Business Unit. The position is based at Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve (ABRP) in Bristol, FL. ABRP is one of four statewide campus preserves included in TNC Florida’s Center for Conservation Initiatives (CCI) and is integral to CCI’s Stewardship and Education/Training initiatives.
This pivotal role provides leadership and support for restoration and land management efforts primarily within northern Florida. They collaborate closely with stakeholders to develop and execute natural resource management programs across various preserves. This includes activities such as wildland fire management, invasive species control, and forest restoration, all aimed at maintaining ecosystem health on both TNC and partner lands. Compliance with TNC’s, local, state, and federal requirements is paramount in all stewardship-related activities. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for ongoing professional development, staying abreast of wildland fire trainings and techniques to enhance skills and maintain professional fire certification credentials. This includes upper-level external partner relationships, extensive fire mentoring of staff, management of a substantial fire and land management fleet, and the full responsibilities of a National Wildfire Coordinating Group Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (NWCG RXB2). They also lead an Ecosystem Restoration Team and contribute to conservation planning at multiple scales, fostering cross-boundary learning and building relationships within the land management community.

In this multifaceted role, the Land Conservation Manager oversees the natural resources on TNC preserves throughout northern Florida, working closely with preserve managers to develop and evaluate land management plans. They supervise contractors, ensuring that all contractual obligations are met, and oversee wildland prescribed fire planning and execution. Additionally, they coordinate with the Florida Fire Program Director on state and regional fire priorities, and safely implement integrated pest management protocols. The Manager seeks and manages stewardship grants, represents TNC on conservation issues, and assists with biological and ecological monitoring projects. They also lead field program projects, manage preserve operations and facilities, supervise staff and volunteers, and provide support to other departments as needed, ensuring the successful implementation of TNC's conservation priorities in the NFL region.
Housing and basic utilities, except for telephone/internet, may be provided in a Conservancy residence in Bristol, FL. This position functions as a part of the land management team to maintain, enhance and restore threatened and imperilled ecosystems in the central Florida landscape.
