The Nature Conservancy in California is staffing up to increase our use of good fire across the state. We are hiring a Fire Manager and a Prescribed Fire Specialist to join our team. The deadline to apply is January 2nd.
The California Chapter is growing our prescribed fire efforts both on our California preserves and with our partners on federal, state, tribal, and private land throughout California. Both roles will be pivotal in providing training opportunities to the prescribed fire workforce across the State. Together they will support The Nature Conservancy and partner organizations throughout the state by providing key training or curriculum development, prescribed fire planning and review, crew supervision, or a particular skill or qualification that will serve as force multiplier and enable burn crews to have a greater impact. Many of the prescribed fire projects will function as cooperative burns or Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges (TREX), which provide experiential training that builds robust local capacity for fire management and offers professional fire practitioners a more holistic perspective—while implementing treatments that support community and ecological objectives.
The Fire Manager is the more senior position of the two and is responsible for ensuring compliance with TNC’s fire policies and procedures. The Fire Manager role requires RxB2 certification and the Prescribed Fire Specialist should be able to complete RxB2 certification within one year of hire. Additional information about the specific tasks of both roles can be found in the job descriptions, linked here for the Fire Manager (Job ID #52567) and the Prescribed Fire Specialist (Job ID 52568).
