The School of Forestry (SOF) at Northern Arizona University is excited to announce its new AZ Wildfire Initiative. There are three facets to this program that include: 1) enhancing workforce development and education; 2) science dissemination and outreach; and 3) community preparedness for wildfire. To support this new initiative and other SOF needs, we invite applications for the positions of Assistant Teaching Professor or Assistant Professor of Practice in Forestry, Fire and Natural Resource Management. Assistant Teaching Professors require an earned Ph.D., while Professors of Practice are distinguished professionals in an area of practice or discipline who may not have a terminal degree in the field. Depending on the qualification of the candidates, they could be appointed as Assistant Teaching Professors or Assistant Professors of Practice. These positions are 9-month, non-tenure-track appointments (80% Teaching, 0-10% Research, 10-20% Service). The positions are renewable based on the availability of funds, effective performance, and program needs.
We seek up to three applicants with expertise in wildland fire, forestry, forest/rangeland ecology, and natural resource management or whose interests will support, build, and complement the School of Forestry’s and NAU’s programs in related areas. Successful applicants will be expected to teach in-person courses, on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus, and online courses, primarily in support of our undergraduate programs. Potential courses include: Fire Monitoring and Modeling, Natural Resources Policy, Multicultural Perspectives of Natural Resource Management, Rangeland Management, Plant Physiology, Forest Resource Economics, Forest Biometrics, Forest Products, and other inter- or cross-disciplinary fire-related courses. We do not expect one person to have all this capability and will be looking for a complement of people to cover these areas.
