Forest Health Program Manager/Fire Ecologist

Apply your expertise in forest health and project management to plan, coordinate, and manage a Forest Health Program across Los Alamos National Laboratory’s approximately 40 square miles. You will collaborate with both wildland fire specialists and resource management specialists to ensure that fire mitigation activities best achieve wildfire mitigation while integrating forest health objectives. This includes performing fuels inventories and monitoring forest health for use in wildfire modeling or planning, performing assessments on fuels mitigation areas for compliance with prescriptions, and developing a cross-cutting urban forest plan for developed areas. You will report to the Environmental Protection and Compliance – Environmental Stewardship Group while deployed to the Emergency Management Division – Emergency Preparedness Group to support the Laboratory’s Wildland Fire Management Program and enable its broader mission of solving national security challenges through simultaneous excellence.

Position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years’ experience in two or more of the following areas: project management, forestry, wildfire ecology, forest management, horticulture, urban forestry, forest. operations, wildland fire management, environmental science, other related science and 3+ years performing at project manager 1 or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
