The Natural Resources Manager at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College is responsible for facilitating learning opportunities for students and the general public through the provision and management of a variety of natural habitats (forest, prairie, wetlands, etc.) throughout the Merry Lea property.
The Natural Resources Manager must have a strong desire to increase knowledge about and appreciation of the natural world through their work. They should also find fulfillment in maintaining the natural resources of Merry Lea for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations. It is imperative that the person in this position has a strong environmental ethic. Their approach to natural resource management should be grounded in the concepts of environmental sustainability and resilience and aimed at maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem functionality into the future.
This position oversees and provides day-to-day management of natural resource features across Merry Lea’s 1189-acre property, including monitoring for intended management outcomes and creating/implementing our organizational natural resource management plan. This work includes training and imparting knowledge of how to manage our natural resources to volunteers, undergraduate students, and temporary/seasonal workers. The Natural Resources Manager also serves as the primary point of contact for external organizations and individuals inquiring about matters related to natural resource management efforts. In collaboration with staff and faculty colleagues, this person develops, delivers, and supports education programs, outreach materials and curricula for all ages aimed at furthering our audience’s understanding of conservation and natural resource stewardship.
This if a full-time, exempt salary position (1.0 FTE) with an annual salary of $45,565 plus benefits.
