Under general supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in the management of the County’s Flood Control District’s Forest Restoration Initiative; performs related work as assigned.

Typical Duties

  • Plans, develops, implements, administers, and evaluates programs within the Forest Restoration Initiative.

  • Collaborate with partners, internal and external, by developing strong working relationships. 

  • Work directly with contractors, consultants, nonprofit partners and the U.S. Forest Service to negotiate, administer and monitor contracts related to forest restoration projects.

  • Research best practices and implements strategies to increase effectiveness.

  • Write grant proposals and develop new funding sources.

  • Prepares and administers program budgets, with administrative oversight.

  • Develops, evaluates and revises policies and procedures to improve program efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Supervises, evaluates and recommends disciplinary action for assigned personnel.

  • Implements programs that align with and support the Forest Restoration Initiative.

  • Ensures adherence to federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Maintains working relationships with federal and state agencies and non-profit organizations.

  • Monitors budget expenditures.

  • Develops programs to enhance the resiliency of our communities to catastrophic wildfire and post-wildfire flooding.

  • Serves during emergencies in necessary roles. 

  • May assist other departments and divisions within Public Works. 

  • May assist other departments and divisions within Coconino County as directed. 


     Essential functions of this position include but not limited to driving; working with and around others; communicating with staff and the public; working alone; vision acuity (near and far); dealing with interruptions; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation.  Environmental conditions include but not limited to working indoors and outdoors as necessary.
