Bringing Fire Back to the People: Cultural Burning with a New Generation

Fire Learning Network

“With support from the Resources Legacy Fund, the Fire Networks and The Nature Conservancy worked with people in Northern California, Greater Yellowstone and the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains to tell stories of some of these paths. While rooted in community and place, these stories show a better future with fire relies on all of us.”

“Revitalizing Indigenous cultural burning supports Indigenous Peoples’ food, medicine, ceremony, and self-determination—while strengthening ecosystems and reducing the impacts of extreme wildfires. “Bringing Fire Back to the People” follows members of the Karuk Tribe in Northern California as they protect and revitalize traditional fire practices and pass knowledge across generations. This video highlights how cultural burning traditions are tied to living harmoniously with fire. We are deeply grateful to the Karuk Tribe for the opportunity to help share part of their story.
