Southern Area RT-300 Burn Boss and Agency Administrator Refresher

The Southern Area Burn Boss Refresher RT-300 will be held at the Chattanooga, Convention Center in Chattanooga, TN.

In alignment with the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy, we are welcoming federal, state, tribes, non-government organizations, academia; really anyone who participates in prescribed burning to attend. The genesis of this effort was a refresher training, but it has far surpassed the RT-300 curriculum to become an advanced learning opportunity. Yes, the various agency requirements for certification normally included at RT-300 will still be covered, but there is so much more to the 2022 event. We will be providing an opportunity to share the latest and greatest technology, information, techniques and successes within the prescribed fire community.

This training session includes the following learning opportunities:

  • Qualified Burn Bosses/Fire Managers and Agency Administrators interact and refresh skills, build further expertise and mentor the next generation of prescribed fire leaders

  • Trainee Burn Bosses/Fire Managers and Agency Administrators build core competencies necessary to be successful in prescribed fire and to progress in agency-specific training requirements (e.g. USFS RXB and AA position task books)

  • Interdisciplinary scientists and researchers meet and collaborate with interagency prescribed fire practitioners to share and improve the science related to fire ecology, fire effects, wildfire mitigation and more.

  • Participants are exposed to hands-on demonstrations of new and evolving technology related to prescribed fire (UAS, Fire & Smoke Modeling, etc.)

  • Participants build a diverse network of State, Tribal, County/Municipality, Federal and NGO contacts making personal connections and enhancing collaborative relationships in support of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy.
