A wide range of plant species have evolved a remarkable array of adaptations that enable individual plants to survive or grow after being subject to fire. A diverse assortment of these fire-adapted (pyrophytic) plant species can be found growing in wildlands found all across New England, frequently in areas where burning has occurred sometime in the past. This class will survey a taxonomically and ecologically diverse assortment of plant species and examine some of the adaptations that allow these plants to either survive or grow after experiencing fire.
