Fire Ecology: AFE's Open Access Journal

Fire Ecology is the international scientific journal supported by the Association for Fire Ecology that publishes peer-reviewed articles on all ecological and management aspects relating to wildland fire. All articles in Fire Ecology are open access, meaning full articles can be viewed and downloaded free of charge.

The journal publishes original research, reviews, technical and field notes, opinion pieces, book reviews, as well as occasional reprints of “classic” fire ecology articles. The journal has 40 associate editors representing scientists from multiple agencies, fields, and countries. Beginning in 2005, we are now entering our 14th year of publication with almost 400 articles published.

Fire Ecology is published by Springer Nature. You can access and submit articles on the journal website.

We welcome submissions on topics that include a broad range of research on the ecological relationships of fire to its environment, including, but not limited to:

  • Ecology (physical and biological fire effects, fire regimes, etc.)
  • Social science (geography, sociology, anthropology, etc.)
  • Fuel
  • Fire science and modeling
  • Planning and risk management
  • Law and policy
  • Fire management
  • Inter- or cross-disciplinary fire-related topics
